Don't expect any help when Auctionet makes an error
I have used Auctionet for around a year, mainly to buy items in overseas auctions and bring them in to the UK. This means I always check that shipping is available, and what the price is, and factor that into my maximum bid. In a recent auction, having checked the above, I successfully bid and paid the invoice immediately, then ordered shipping but the invoice did not arrive (despite the website stating that it would be with me in a few days). I followed up because it was reaching the collection deadline from the auction house, only to be told that shipping was not available on this item. It was an item type I had bought previously and had delivered through Auctionet, and there was no notification of a policy change, or any other reason to believe that the shipping had been listed in error. Although the response was rapid, it can be summed up as 'we can't help'. This left me having bought a significantly expensive item in Sweden with no way to ship it to the UK at anything like a reasonable price (Auctionet had offered £27 if collected from a nearby auction house and the best I was being offered was £290). On stating that this wasn't good enough, the best that Auctionet could come up with was that I could cancel the order under distance selling regulations. That seemed completely unreasonable to either the auction house, or the original seller. With the help of the auction house, I have managed to arrange shipping privately at something approaching a reasonable price (although still double what Auctionet had originally offered). This took me most of yesterday afternoon to do and was significantly stressful, trying to ensure that I complied with shipping policies and import rules when the original documents all needed to be translated from Swedish to English. This leaves a very bad taste - when buying from overseas you really are dependent on the quality of service from the company because there is very little you can do to sort things out if they just wash their hands of the problem that they have created. My experience is that you need an alternative plan for shipping, and to factor that into the price and the time you may need to put in, because Auctionet cannot be relied on to deliver on what their website says.
