Terrible Company. Terrible Solutions. Incredibly Shady.
Do not book with this company unless you have a very basic flight — no bags to add, and especially no seats. I recently booked 2x tickets on a flight from Faro, Portugal to New York with a stop in Dublin on the way. I was supposed to have a checked bag and seats selected on both flights. What was most important was an exit row seat on the transatlantic portion of this flight (I’m 6’3”). So, seeing this company offered seat selection (which lots of travel aggregator sites don’t), I gave it a shot. The first sign of an issue was after I was ticketed my reservation showed no seats AND no baggage. I emailed and called BYOjet and they quickly got my baggage added and a seat on the Faro > Dublin leg of travel. Still, red flag number one. Here’s where the real difficulties started happening. Over the next 5 days I spent hours calling and emailing their customer service trying to get my exit row seat assigned from Dublin > NYC. After countless back and forths with incredibly unhelpful reps on the phone and AI responses to my emails I ended up having to get partially refunded for the exit row seat (which was roughly $140 each ticket) after they finally said they couldn’t get the seat for me. So, beware that any seat selection is completely speculative with these people. They have no relationship with the airlines and are incredibly bad at problem solving. Now, I had to call the airline directly and luckily was able to pay separately for my exit row ticket but the money saved using this company is NOT WORTH IT. Look for another travel site alternative - the couple hundred I saved not booking direct with the airline was not worth this hassle. UPDATE - It has now been 13 business days since a BYOjet told me I’d be receiving a refund for the seats they failed to secure. They said the refund would take 5-8 days. Their reps keep giving me the runaround when I ask when the refund will arrive. Another fun note about this shady company - When you go to review their customer service from the automated email you receive if you click 5 stars it links you out to Trust Pilot to write a review. If you click 1 star it opens an email draft to write back to them. Everything about this company is questionable. BEWARE. They are incredibly shady and unhelpful for the most basic requests. Like making good on seats you pay for.
