Terrible surgeon

Terrible surgeon. Dr. Cetinkaya performed a full facelift, revision brow lift, and facial fat grafting. This was a revision surgery because my previous brow lift had not achieved the result I was seeking. Therefore, I was very specific during my consultation about what needed to be corrected. My primary goal was increased eyebrow height with a defined arch. I was very specific I did not want just a lateral pull. I also specifically discussed my facial asymmetry and explained that improving the difference in volume between the two sides of my face was an important goal of the fat grafting portion of the procedure. Unfortunately, the primary concerns were not corrected, nor did he take the notes we discussed during our consultation. After surgery, keep in mind I paid for 2 separate brow lift procedures; my eyebrow height is essentially unchanged from before the procedure. The result appears to be primarily a lateral pull rather than the increased height and arch that I specifically discussed. The most disappointing part is that when I later reviewed my preoperative records, I discovered that the brow height and shape we discussed were not documented as part of the surgical plan. The main aesthetic objective that led me to undergo a second brow surgery was not reflected in my records. I understand that no surgeon can guarantee an exact aesthetic outcome. However, if a specific goal cannot realistically be achieved, that conversation should happen before surgery. Patients rely on their surgeon to provide realistic expectations and to document the objectives discussed during consultation so there is a clear understanding of what is being planned. The fat grafting was also a significant concern. I specifically explained that I wanted the existing asymmetry in my facial volume addressed. After multiple requests over approximately six weeks, I finally received my operative report. I was disappointed to see that the report documented the same amount of fat being placed in corresponding areas on both sides of my face. Since asymmetry was one of the specific concerns I wanted corrected, I expected the approach to be tailored to my individual facial structure. The postoperative experience was equally disappointing. Once I returned to the United States, communication became minimal despite my questions and concerns and they never once initiated any contact to see how I was doing. At six weeks postoperatively, I still have no movement on one side of my forehead. I understand that nerve weakness can occur after surgery and that recovery may take several months. My concern was not that healing takes time. My concern was the lack of meaningful follow-up, guidance, and interest in my recovery. I expected my surgeon to monitor my progress, answer questions, and provide reassurance during the healing process. Instead, I felt that once I had left Turkey and the procedure had been paid for, the doctor-patient relationship was effectively over. I was also disappointed by the lack of long-term postoperative examples available when evaluating results. Many publicly shared postoperative photos appear to be taken very early in the healing process, when swelling can temporarily affect appearance. I found fewer examples showing fully healed, long-term outcomes. More transparent examples of results months after surgery would have been helpful when making such a significant decision. Traveling internationally for a facelift, revision brow lift, and fat grafting requires a significant investment of money, time, and trust. I accepted the normal risks associated with surgery, but I did not expect to undergo a second brow procedure and a full facial rejuvenation while still having the primary issues I sought to correct remain unresolved. If you are considering Dr. Cetinkaya, my advice is don’t. Seems to be more of a doctor who tell you what you want to hear than one who can actually achieve the requested results. Additionally, I am now two months out and looking exactly as I did before having any surgery done except I have a lot of scarring and an eyebrow that still doesn’t function whatsoever. One of the other procedures that I was told I needed was gland shaving, and as you can notice from the pictures attached, there was zero shaving up the glands, and they are exactly the same size as they were before with a new large under chin scar and the same amount of excess skin under the chin as what I had previously. The fat grafting in my forehead has also absorbed, so not only is there no eyebrow lift which I was told was a result of the fat grafting there is now no fat grafting there either. He just wants your money and is a terrible surgeon.

Severe complications after face lift

In September 2025, I underwent an endoscopic facelift and neck lift with Dr. Ali Çetinkaya in Istanbul, Turkey. Following the surgery, I developed multiple serious complications, including: • Tissue necrosis along both temporal incision lines, resulting in permanent scarring alopecia. •Persistent blurred vision in my right eye. •Hypertrophic scarring behind my left ear and pixie ears • Lagophthalmos (2 mm incomplete closure of my right eye) and lateral canthal over-tightening, as documented by a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon. • Severe neck tightness that made swallowing and opening my mouth difficult for several months, along with a persistent sensation of a lump in my throat that continues to this day. Overall, the aesthetic outcome of the surgery is very poor. My facial features became noticeably distorted, while the intended rejuvenating effect was not achieved. In fact, I look older, not younger. For the first two months, my face had severe skin tethering, deep unnatural indentations, and visible tissue pulling that significantly distorted my appearance. I couldn’t work, I couldn’t leave my house, and I was forced to withdraw from normal social life. My eyes became smaller, excessively upturned, and lost their natural, open appearance. The transition between my lower eyelids and cheeks was no longer smooth, and I developed abnormal under eyes bags, skin folds and bunching beneath my eyes, particularly when I smile—changes that were never present before surgery. My right eye appears significantly smaller than my left. After consulting with several facial plastic and oculoplastic surgeons, the consistent opinion was that my deformities and complications appeared to be primarily related to excessive tissue tension and an overly aggressive vector of pull. At the time of surgery, I was a healthy 39-year-old non-smoker with no known medical conditions or risk factors that would have been expected to impair wound healing or increase the risk of tissue necrosis. As a result, I am now facing complex revision surgery to correct the deformities affecting my eyes and under-eye area and pixie ears , as well as a hair transplant to restore the permanent hair loss caused by tissue necrosis. The revision surgery is expected to be technically challenging, emotionally exhausting, and extremely expensive. After I provided Dr. Ali with the medical notes from a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon documenting these findings, he stopped communicating with me. The reason he gave was that I had sought opinions from other specialists and discussed my complications with patients in facelift-related WhatsApp groups. Following these complications, I had no choice but to seek medical help from oculoplastic and facial plastic surgeons, dermatologists and other specialists. I also sought support from other facelift patients because I had been removed from Dr. Ali’s official WhatsApp patient group by its administrator, shortly after posting photographs of my tissue necrosis and other complications. Later, I learned that other dissatisfied patients had also been removed from his group. Complications can happen to any plastic surgeon. What defines a surgeon is not whether complications occur, but how they respond when they do. A responsible surgeon stands by their patient, remains involved throughout the healing process, helps manage complications, and, when appropriate, offers revision surgery or contributes to the cost of corrective treatment. In my opinion, abandoning a patient after serious complications is neither professional nor ethical. UPDATE TO THE DOCTOR’S RESPONSE: Several statements in your response are inconsistent with my experience and the independent medical evidence. Two independent U.S. eye specialists diagnosed me with lagophthalmos and lateral canthal over-tightening. Their conclusions are documented in my medical records. In Turkey you personally examined me only twice; all subsequent follow-up was conducted by your nurse, who is not a physician. Therefore, I do not understand the basis for your statement that my eyelid closure was repeatedly assessed by you. To the best of my recollection, you never personally examined my eyelid closure. You also state that our doctor-patient relationship ended due to months of repeated public accusations. That is incorrect. You stopped responding to my medical concerns on January 4, 2026, more than six months before I published any public reviews. Before then, I discussed my complications only in private facelift-related patient support groups after being removed from your official WhatsApp patient group. Private patient discussions are not the same as public online reviews.

Find an accountable doctor

I traveled internationally to see Dr. Cetinkaya for a facelift, revision brow lift, and facial fat grafting after extensive research and a consultation in which we discussed my goals in detail. My primary objective was to achieve higher eyebrows with a defined arch. In fact, the only reason I agreed to undergo a full facelift was because I was told it would help accomplish that result. Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely disappointing. After surgery, my brow height is essentially unchanged. I have now paid for two separate brow lift procedures, yet the problem I traveled to correct was never resolved. When I later reviewed my medical records, I discovered that the brow height and shape we had discussed were never documented in my surgical plan. The facelift has also been disappointing. Less than eight weeks after surgery, I am already noticing sagging that I did not expect so soon after such an extensive procedure and my skin is extremely lax (worse than before the surgery). What did I even pay for? I also sought fat grafting to improve my facial asymmetry. Instead, my operative report states that equal amounts of fat were injected on both sides of my face, despite asymmetry being one of my primary concerns. One side, particularly around my eye, has remained noticeably swollen with a bulbous lump, even though that side did not require any additional volume. What has disappointed me most has been the lack of accountability. Rather than acknowledging that my surgical goals were not achieved, I received changing explanations. Most recently, I was told that the fat grafting affected my brow height, an explanation I do not find medically convincing nor was this ever brought up prior to surgery. Each time I raised concerns, there seemed to be a new reason why the outcome was not what had been promised, rather than an honest discussion about the results. The financial experience was equally frustrating. My quoted price changed multiple times before surgery. When I arrived in Turkey, I learned that my deposit had not been deducted from the final balance as I had been told before traveling. I raised the issue in person, but it was never resolved. Communication after surgery was minimal. Once I returned home, I felt the doctor-patient relationship effectively ended. My questions were largely dismissed, follow-up was limited, I was the only one who ever initiated contact, and I never felt there was genuine concern for my recovery or satisfaction. Traveling internationally for cosmetic surgery requires an enormous amount of trust. I invested significant time, money, and hope into this experience because I believed I would receive the result we discussed. Instead, I was left with the same brow position I started with, concerns about the facelift and fat grafting, unresolved billing issues, and little support once I returned home. My advice is to choose a surgeon based not only on before-and-after photos or consultation promises, but also on their willingness to document surgical goals, communicate honestly, stand behind their work, and remain engaged if the outcome does not meet expectations. Those qualities ultimately matter just as much as surgical technique.

1.5 Years Out, Not Fully Satisfied

I had lower face, mid-face, neck lift, temporal brow lift, upper bleph & fat transfer 1.5 years ago. Really good reviews on social media is why I chose Dr. Ali. Now that everything has settled, I am disappointed with my results. The general issue is that the work doe was too conservative. I didn't want to look like I'd had obvious work done, but as soon as the swelling subsided, I could see that all of the areas had more slackness than is expected. Everything has softened (I've had no weight change) & my jaw line wasn't right even right after the surgery. This is not Dr Ali's fault, but all the fat from the fat transferred resorbed & you can't tell I had it at all. This has left me with under eye hollows. Scaring: the scar behind my right ear is not close to the hairline & is quite visible still. This is very thick & raised & itchy I'm using silicone on since about 2 months post surgery. The scar on my left Temple is in front of my hair line, so you can see it but it's thin so I'm hoping no one is guessing it's from plastic surgery. Lastly, the scar from the upper bleph is ragged on the outer corner of my left eye & eyeliner won't apply smoothly. I continue to use silicone there as well. The general numbness resolved around a year after the surgery. Even people who've known me a long time haven't noticed I had anything done. When I put my before & after pictures through AI, it guessed the same age for both. All that said, while I don't look younger, I do feel I look a little more fresh, but given the time, expense, travel & expectations: I'm not entirely sure it was worth it for the minimal improvement. PS the date range was limited, I had the surgery in January 2025, not july

Unbelievable!

Unbelievable experience and surgeon. Like most people I spent a very long time researching surgeons and procedures within my home country, South Korea and Turkey before making a decision. The quality of surgeons in Australia is not very good in general, and I wanted to ensure I was able to get the best techniques and skill. Turkey & South Korea are known for their surgical nous. Dr Ali is still young and an ‘emerging’ surgeon, (has not been practicing for decades), however is miles ahead in skill & expertise of many surgeons decades older. His results are natural, balanced, elegant and and seamless and his eye for aesthetics - making someone more beautiful, not just younger - is a trait not apparent in all surgeons. He has got ‘it’. His stitching is invisible, just unbelievable! I cannot get over my blepharoplasty. It’s perfect!! The entire experience has been a dream. Ecem his coordinator organized everything, I did not have to lift a finger. She was a big part of my decision also due to her kindness and warmth right from the start. I am not through the full healing process yet but I am so excited about my results and the correction I had to my damaged eye, and the overall contours of my face and eyes, he is a magician 😍 I will update at 3 months with photos. Çok teşekkür ederim, efsanesin Dr Ali! ❤️❤️
