I deeply regret choosing Ecwid. I subscribed to the Business plan expecting a reliable and reasonably flexible e-commerce solution. Unfortunately, I have discovered that even basic website requirements are not properly supported. A simple example: Ecwid Instant Site does not allow you to add an ads.txt file at the root of your domain. This is a standard requirement for Google AdSense and online monetization. The required file is literally one line of plain text, but Ecwid provides no native feature, no server access, no usable workaround, and no technical assistance to implement it. Even with a paid Business plan, the answer from support was essentially that nothing can be done and that I should integrate my Ecwid store into another custom website. In other words, for a basic technical requirement, the suggested solution is to rebuild the website elsewhere. This is extremely frustrating. Once your site structure is built on Ecwid, you quickly feel locked in. Migrating to another service is time-consuming, complicated, and risky, which makes the lack of flexibility even more problematic. With today’s AI tools, it is becoming increasingly clear that creating a custom website with the exact features you need is more accessible than ever. That is good news, and I intend to use that opportunity instead of continuing to depend on a closed platform that cannot handle basic requirements. In my opinion, Ecwid is not a future-proof solution. If you need control, flexibility, SEO/monetization features, or even small technical adjustments, think very carefully before committing to this platform.

Useless if you sell to the EU. Doesn't handle VAT properly, doesn't handle mandatory B2B invoicing, and now they are totally unprepared for new EU withdrawal form requirements that come into effect in 2 days - they are "currently reviewing possible approaches for introducing this functionality, but implementation timelines have not been defined yet" - 2 days before this becomes law! This is a consistent pattern, whenever regulations or logistics require changes Ecwid is unprepared for them and may implement changes (but not always, or not always sufficiently) months or years after the regulations come into effect. Also - their annual plan automatically renews 90 days before it expires, but if you try to cancel it cancels immediately with no refund. So you can either cancel 90 days before and lose 90 days that you paid for, or you get locked in to another full year. Just don't sign up to it, it's not worth the hassle, use Shopify like everyone else.

The fast checkout gateways don't work effectively which is not good for any website

We have been using ECWID for 5 years, it was a great SaaS until they got purchased by Lightspeed then it went south. We confirm what other past clients report on Truspilot. What we now see: - We faced many problems in 2025 with ECWID when the UPS API changed, the connector was not updated before many months. We use UPS to ship our products and it was super stressful. Very poor support from ECWID. - In April 2026 ECWID is totally incompatible with the new B2B e-invoice system mandatory across EU for VAT reporting from September 2026, and they are simply not aware, not ready, no plan, no communication. That alone makes ECWID useless in Europe. - The contract termination FAQ on the ECWID web site states you can stop at any time but forgets to mention the termination terms. Read their "Closing-your-Ecwid-account" article on their web page. - The ECWID FAQ states that you can terminate at any time but also that termination is instant when you click on the button, and there is no refund for unused time. - You have to read the terms of service page to realize you have to terminate with a 90 days notice. Read the policy, the link is in the ECWID web site footer. So to summarize that (totally illegal) policy: - If you don't terminate 90 days before the end of the current subscription you are automatically re-subscribed for 1 more year, non refundable. - When you terminate 90 days before the end of the current subscription that termination is instant and you then lose 90 days of subscription (this is illegal in the US, EU, UK and any civilized country in the world). - When that abrupt termination happens you lose all your data, all your history, your client invoices and you cannot even get back your data (and this is totally illegal in EU) although you still have 90 days of paid subscription. After a lot of effort and persuasion (they were trying to trick us into canceling just before the end of the subscription, knowing we would have to pay one more year) we were finally able to get ECWID to remove our paypal link from our subscription ahead of time. They never commented on our request for them to fix those illegal terms, that seems to indicate ECWID/Lightspeed does not care and it becomes a scam. Someone needs to report them, the stiff fines in EU and Quebec for such business practices should really discourage Lightspeed continue them. So stay away if you are in EU, no e-invoice support, and beware of the termination scam. And by the way, you will read in the usage policy a paragraph stating they charge a fee if you don't use their charging service: "If Customer falls within (i), (ii) and (iii) of Section 5.3 above and processes transactions through a payment processing service other than Lightspeed Payments, Customer will be charged a monthly Fee for each month in which Customer processes transactions through such service" This policy is totally illegal in EU. Read the policy, the link is in the ECWID web site footer. Stay away, farewell ECWID, you were great and that's the past.

Auch nicht für Geld. Unclaimed ist fair. Claimed gibt das Mikrofon — nicht den Radiergummi.
