What a beautiful ship The balmoral
What a beautiful ship The Balmoral is . Myself and parents were on her and were treated like Royals , we were only on for 1 day tester for my mum as she can’t swim and has alway been afraid of water but had always wanted to try a cruise. OMG she love it so much they have rebooked for next year. Your staff were amazing and went out there way to help and were very helpful Nothing was to much for them , from being to end was wonderful the entertainment was London quality. We would 100% recommend your wonderful company to anyone excellent value for money as well . Thank you for helping to spoil my mum and show her their is nothing to worry about going on a cruise 💕

First rate cruises with Fred Olsenn
Well organised with quick and easy embarkation. Excellent communication with daily bulletin and announcements. Staff are very attentive and friendly. Food is of an excellent quality although maybe too much fish in range offered at times limiting choice for people who can't or don't eat fish products. Maybe more fruit such as berries and mango could be offered for healthier puddings

Above all the superb staff
Firstly the staff, universally friendly, engaged and helpful. Small ships we like, able to get into small ports. Good lecturers and guest entertainers, the show team very promising young professionals. Generally a good atmosphere among the passengers, even if they choose you rather than you them.

Balmoral Wonders of…
I was on Balmoral for the Wonders of Iceland with Solar Eclipse Cruise. I loved the ship and everything was superbly well organised. Embarkation and disembarkation were very easy. All the staff were superb - the cabin lady, all the catering staff and the entertainment crew. I spoke to many of the navigation staff too and they were lovely. The food was excellent in both restaurants I ate in. Lovely menus. The quizzes with Nathan and David and Ken were so funny and entertaining. Those three were fantastic as was the new lady on board. I even did karaoke the one night and sang ‘Goldfinger’ . Both pianists were fantastic as was Three Dollar Bill, the string trio and the guitarist. I went to two shows and enjoyed them. I must give a special mention to Jack Harrison the Cruise Manager. Not only did he do a great cabaret but he was kind and understanding and both he and Ken were so dignified leading the church services. They were fantastic. I loved the craft classes. I made an eclipse and Iceland stencilled bag and a felt whale. I joined a ukulele orchestra which was fun. Ivy the teacher is a real pro. I didn’t really enjoy the astronomy talk and I felt we were not given enough guidance before the eclipse or on the day about timings. The organised tours were all amazing. They were a bit pricey but everything in Iceland was. I avoided eating out and ate on the ship. The Golden Circle Tour was amazing as was the lovely salmon lunch. The Wonders of Akeyuri was a fantastic excursion but the light meal was terrible. Just half a sandwich each and a tiny finger cake. I loved everything about the landscapes- the waterfalls, natural formations and the geysers. The cruise was spoilt for me, however, by the fact that we did not see the total eclipse on Balmoral but people on Bollette saw it. I know you can’t control the weather but Bollette was able to navigate into a clearer sky. On the one day both ships were in the same port and I had to suffer the distress of seeing people’s beautiful eclipse pictures taken from Bollette. I was very distressed and cried a lot in my cabin. OK it’s my own fault. I should have gone to Spain. Even worse was most people on Balmoral didn’t care about not seeing the eclipse. In fact many people didn’t even know what it was! I am upset because it was very difficult for me to get to Rosyth from the Midlands. It was almost impossible finding a guest house outside Edinburgh even n 18 months in advance. I also had to stay for 2 nights. No one would put you up for one. This added a lot to the cost. I booked the cruise on 5 November 2024 on the day it was released. No one told me at the time of booking about the Iceland cruise on Bollette from Liverpool. It would have been so easy to get to Liverpool. When I found out about the Liverpool one I tried to transfer onto it but it was full. I was told both cruises had been released on the same day 5 Nov 2024. On the Wonders of Akeyuri excursion I came across a couple of elderly women from the Bollette. They were so unkind saying they’d seen the eclipse but I was making a fuss over a ring of light. They said,” If you wanted to see the eclipse you should have gone to Spain,” I replied,” Well you didn’t go to Spain and you saw it!” They told me they booked the cruise from Liverpool on Bollette in October 2024. I told them I’d booked the one from Rosyth in Nov 2024 but they said in Nov 24 the Liverpool one still had places. How would they know that and why didn’t Fred Olsen tell me about the one from Liverpool? I specifically asked them if there was a sailing from a port other than Rosyth! So frustrating. Also I came across some anti English sentiment. When I was in the craft class and trying to make conversation with people I felt an outsider not being Scottish. I should point out that the craft teachers who were themselves Scottish were absolutely lovely ladies! Most of the people on the ship were Scottish which was to be expected having boarded at Rosyth. I caught flu for the last two days and when I was about to disembark I was standing some distance away from a middle aged couple and they said,” Would you not coming anywhere near us with your cold!” Nice!! A lot of people were coughing, not just I. My final day on the ship was ruined at breakfast by a lady from Rosyth who kept telling me I could not get a train from Rosyth to Edinburgh. She told me I could only go to Edinburgh from Inverkeith! I had to tell her to leave me alone. Woukdn’t sail from Rosyth again! This cruise docked in Torshavn. I couldn’t find the main high street with the shops. I was so puzzled as I had been before in 2015. It was a pretty harbour and seemed to be a complete town. We were actually in a district of Torshavn called Tinganes. 10 mins away is the main street with the lovely craft and antique shops! Most people miss it by accident as I did!
