I want to start by saying that this review is specifically about IHG's customer service, not the hotels themselves — because the two are worlds apart in quality, and I think that distinction matters. IHG's customer service is genuinely useless. Time and again, I found that the people I spoke to had no idea what they were doing. Every call or interaction felt like starting from scratch, as if nothing had been logged or communicated internally. There was no sense of ownership over my issue, no continuity between conversations, and no one seemed able to actually resolve anything or even explain what was happening. The clearest example of this was the callback situation. I was promised 10 callbacks over the course of three weeks. Ten. Not once, not twice, but ten separate promises that someone would call me back to follow up on my issue. I did not receive a single one. Not one. Three weeks of being told "someone will call you" and then complete silence, every single time. It's hard to overstate how frustrating this is — you plan around these calls, you wait for them, and they simply never come. At a certain point it stops feeling like an oversight and starts feeling like the company simply doesn't have a functioning process for following up with customers at all. On top of the callback failures, IHG's staff repeatedly failed to tell me key policy details even when I specifically and directly asked about them. This isn't a case of me not asking the right questions — I asked directly, and the information either wasn't given, was incomplete, or was flat-out wrong. When a company can't or won't give you a straight, accurate answer to a direct question about their own policies, it makes it impossible to trust anything else they tell you. I want to be fair here: the hotels themselves are generally very good. I've had plenty of decent stays under the IHG umbrella, and I'm not trying to trash the physical product or the on-the-ground hotel staff, who are usually a completely different story from head office or central customer service. This review is squarely about the customer service layer sitting behind the brand — the people you have to deal with when something actually goes wrong. But because of this experience, my confidence in booking with IHG going forward has taken a real hit. When something goes wrong and you need support, you need a company that actually shows up for you — and IHG's customer service simply did not.

NEVER again with IHG — confirmed bookings cancelled while we travelled, still unresolved On 3 June 2026, I booked 6 rooms for 15 guests, 4–7 July 2026. All were fully confirmed and guaranteed on my Barclaycard. The card was for the guarantee only; each guest was to pay on arrival. While travelling from JFK to the hotel, all 6 reservations were cancelled without our consent. We did not request or authorise this, and received no warning or explanation. After almost 2 hours of stress following an international flight, the hotel could provide only 5 rooms, at 21% higher walk-in rates, costing us an additional $851.45. One family had to find emergency accommodation elsewhere at short notice. What made matters worse, IHG support claimed I had cancelled the reservations — despite us already travelling to the hotel. I submitted a formal complaint with all the evidence, including booking confirmations, cancellation emails, receipts and support correspondence. Yet IHG has still not properly acknowledged, explained or resolved the matter. A confirmed reservation should mean something. If bookings can disappear without your consent while you are travelling, and a formal complaint is then left unresolved, how can customers trust the company with important travel arrangements? Verdict: NEVER again with IHG. My advice: think twice before relying on IHG, especially when travelling as a group.

Stayed at Holiday Inn Blackpool 30 June - 2 July, had a king room with accessibility as I am disabled. On arrival your reception staff, especially the female staff member that checked us in was brilliant, ever so helpful and respectful and nothing was too much trouble. I also had a mobility scooter left at reception for me by a hire company, again the female staff member was most helpful, and kind, which means a lot to me. Our first night we ate in the restaurant, I had the BLT - which was not just the biggest but the best BLT I had ever seen, was ever so tasty too. My friend had the 80z sirloin, which although he enjoyed it felt the size of the steak was small. The younger female staff member that served us in the restaurant was very good, efficient and friendly. My friend went to the bar to get drinks and the bar person that served him gave the impression that it was an inconvenience to have to serve someone and that he would rather not be doing anything. Second night we again went to the restaurant, based on the quality of the food etc. It was a complete letdown. Firstly from the bar area where it was apparent that the staff were more interested in the World Cup football match, where again you were not made to feel welcome and you shouldn't be disturbing staff asking for drinks. In the restaurant there seemed to be only one person taking orders etc, when we finally managed to get someone to take the order, it took him a while to come back and confirm if I could have capers removed from my dish, again, it seemed he was the only one working. When the food came it was a total letdown, my fried had the BLT that I had the night before, however, completely different dish, not just with presentation on a laminate type board but his sandwich was half the size of the one I had the night before, a lot less filling and chips/fries that were not freshly cooked, they looked like end bits of fries left over from a previous night. I did not fair much better with my fish butty, the fish was over cooked and the batter greasy, and the brioche bun seemed vey dry, I did not enjoy it at all and ate less than half. We get the impression that staff were more interested in the world cup match than doing their job. We also noticed that the air conditioning seemed to be on full blast in the restaurant, almost as if they were trying to keep any diners out of the restaurant. With my disability and mobility issues, being warm is crucial to managing both my chronic pain and muscle spasms, it got so cold we had to go to the room so I would avoid muscle spasms which are not only painful and crippling but leave my whole body tender, sore and drained. I'm really disappointed that the experience at Holiday Inn Blackpool was as good as I had hoped it would be. Going to Blackpool was my first time away anywhere since being a victim of a road traffic accident in 2021 which has left me both disabled and suffering from PTSD so I had high hopes of having a good experience. On a further note I had asked for an email receipt for the payment for the accommodation, still not received. My booking was booked via Booking.com. A week on and no response at all from IHG Group

Illegal? Room sold on in front of our very noses! We arrived in Marseille around midnight - hot and tired. We had booked and paid for our room 2 months in advance at the Holiday Inn Express. At reception, there were 3 other travellers who had no bookings. They were given one room in the Holiday Inn and one in the Holiday Inn Express. When our turn came to book in, we were told there were no more rooms available in either holiday. After another 2 hours of searching for alternative accommodation we’re had no alternative but to accept a room in a mosquito infected ‘rough guide’ type hostel called ‘The Greet’. My wife (a IHG member) suffered several bites in her hand (pictures are available) and pulled her back whilst lugging her suitcase across large kerbs and rough ground. This has ruined the first 3 days of our holiday. In the morning, we spoke briefly with ‘management’ ( Laura Mille and Robin Chazel) who both said a full refund would be made immediately. We had to leave quickly so as not to miss the transfer bus back to the airport and left it in their hands. 10 days on and no refund has been made! The whole episode has ruined our milestone celebration holiday!

I've stayed at Holiday Inns and Kimptons multiple times with these guys as a member. Sometimes sloppy, but they get the job done. It's shocking how much they charge and scam you randomly, on top of nonexistent amenities, poor soundproofing, and sometimes no blackout curtains. At the end of the day you do get good deals, and customer service responds well if you are a high-tier member. There's a baseline level of service and quality infrastructure and you won't be taking a risk by staying at these most of the time. Relaxed with check-in and check-out processes. Overall, not worth getting a Chase Sapphire Reserve just for this.
