I did the competent crew course as a beginner sailor with Jill Fisher as the instructor. It was very well delivered, with installments of theory spaced in between lots of fun sailing, including an intercontinental crossing at night!

Competent Crew course
I had a great time, with Jill Fisher as my instructor and a great mixed ability crew. Jill established the level each of us were at really quickly and I was able to do things I was comfortable with while getting time to practice things that I found tougher. We sailed on Jolly Parrot and I would recommend a cabin if you are joining solo just give yourself space. It was good fun, and a lot and would train with Jolly Parrot again.

An unforgettable week of sailing — and the best instructor I could’ve asked for!
I recently came back from a fantastic week sailing in Gibraltar with Jolly Parrot, and it honestly hit the perfect balance of adventure and good vibes. We had everything from big waves and wild winds to dolphin sightings, marina hopping, night sailing and crossing the Strait to Ceuta. It was the kind of trip that reminds you why sailing feels so special. A huge shoutout to Jason, our instructor. He’s the kind of person who brings a calm, steady energy even when the conditions get a bit lively. I hadn’t sailed in a while, but he somehow got my confidence and skills back to a level I didn’t think I’d reach in just a few days. The stuff that should’ve felt intimidating ended up feeling fun and totally manageable because of how he teaches — knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely encouraging. I was also lucky to sail with an amazing crew training for their Yachtmaster, who took me under their wing and made the whole week even more memorable. If you’re considering any sailing training, especially in Gibraltar, I can’t recommend Jolly Parrot — and especially Jason — highly enough. I’m already setting my sights on the Coastal Skipper next. An unforgettable week that reignited my love for sailing.

Sailing Refresher with Ian Goodwin
I have been sailing with Jolly Parrot for 2 years, once for my Day Skipper and again for additional skills and experience. My instructor Ian Goodwin was amazing, with an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things nautical, plus giving all his students a challenge to really understand the physics and mechanics of sailing. I learned so much in just 2 weeks. I would highly recommend Ian and Jolly Parrot for anyone serious about understanding sailing.

After doing the Dayskipper fast track…
After doing the Dayskipper fast track course here is a little review of Jolly Parrot. I've given this review 5stars but that is purely down to the Instructors, Jason was brilliant on the Theory, but the best award goes to Jill for the fantastic on water training and coaching. Jill is a true professional, Jill does not tick boxes, you have to achieve and do it well. But after leaving after a week with Jill I feel very confident to skipper a Yacht. The down side to Jolly Parrot is the slight lack of attention to the training boats, we had been there 6 weeks previous and things were broken on the boat and 6 weeks later they were still not fixed. C'mon Jolly Parrot get your finger out and fix the issues. Its no good having excellent instructors if you are letting your boats go to rack and ruin.
