Vanochtend de tocht op de catamaran gemaakt. Mooi vaartuig, vriendelijk personeel. Na een kwartier zagen we enkele dolfijnen en op een flinke afstand wat water spuiten van een walvis. We zaten echter aan de zijkant waardoor we nauwelijks iets konden zien. Naar voren lopen was geen optie gezien daar al teveel mensen stonden. Erg jammer. Vervolgens hebben we nog anderhalf uur langs de kust gevaren om wat plaatsen te zien liggen en zijn we terug gevaren Erg teleurstellend. Voor de plaatsjes ga ik niet op een dolfijnen tocht. Ik begrijp dat het wilde dieren zijn maar nu werd niet eens meer moeite gedaan we hadden tenslotte al iets gezien na een kwartier.

Disappointed with today’s trip
Disappointed with today’s trip. We saw one whale, and arrived just too late to see a second one properly. Instead of continuing to find any others, the crew announced they were turning round to go to the swimming spot. We’d been told on booking that swimming would probably not happen unless we had seen a lot of wildlife, Felt it could’ve been a lot better. This was on the Celebrity boat 12-3. Maybe you have a better chance of seeing more wildlife on the earlier or later boats, but I wouldn’t book a midday again

3 stars as a ‘whale and dolphin…
3 stars as a ‘whale and dolphin watching’ trip (as advertised). 4 stars as a ‘general tourist cruise’. For whales and dolphins, as with any boat out there searching, there’s a high probability of seeing something from this one, Madeira’s waters are teeming with wildlife. This trip is not 3hrs of searching and finding though, which may easily be interpreted from their advertising stance, however the crew are at least dedicated and motivated to finding something in the early part of the trip. The large number of people on board does mean that many will have an unsatisfactory encounter when animals are seen, sometimes people 3-deep on one side trying to observe. Also, the ‘eco friendly’ stance seems dubious to me, as engines were at no time electric, during the 3 trips I did. As a tourist boat though, it’s reasonably priced, a chance to see the island from a different perspective and learn a little history from the friendly and informative crew, and with a very high probability of seeing some marine animals too.

The Best
It was a fantastic experience! For the first time in my life I had the opportunity to observe these wonders of the sea, the team made the experience truly wonderful! They were extremely professional, but also very attentive, kind, funny and absolutely informative! It was wonderful to sail with people who really love this job and the most important thing for them is the animals and our safety. It was great to see how respectful they are towards the animals, and it was wonderful that they tried to pass this spirit on to us too! "This is their home, we are just visitors." They kept asking if everyone was okay and told us to let them know if we were feeling sick. I may have been a little late. Unfortunately, I fainted on the boat, causing quite a stir, but they immediately jumped to help me, and on the shore they even offered me refreshments to make sure I felt better! Overall, it was a fantastic experience! Especially since not only the visitors, but also the tour guides set off with the same enthusiasm! Thank you very much for the experience!
