Attention Rat Rig Enthusiasts: Read the Fine Print! If you are considering a V-Core or other Rat Rig products, I urge you to study the fine print and side notes on the manufacturer’s website (both Shop and Guide) extremely carefully. Otherwise, you might face the same post-purchase disappointment I did. Despite doing extensive research, I still managed to overlook a few crucial details. The "Invisible" Enclosure When I purchased my "V-Core 4 400mm IDEX" on December 24, 2024, I assumed the panels were included, as most product images show the printer fully enclosed. Upon delivery, I realized the panels were missing. When I contacted support, they informed me that panels are not part of the standard scope of delivery—a detail hidden in small, inconspicuous text on the product page. My mistake for not looking closer, but certainly a frustrating start (additional cost: approx. €360). Logistics and the "Ghost Package" The delivery process was equally challenging. The number of packages didn't match the notification—one was missing. Support claimed it was a "ghost package" error and asked me to verify the entire shipment. Be warned: you only have a very short window to report missing parts. Checking the delivery is tedious, as the BOM (Bill of Materials) lists total quantities (e.g., total screws), while the actual packages are split into many small bags for the assembly guide. Technical Hurdles & Upgrades During the build, I discovered more overlooked requirements: the IDEX upgrade requires the "Hybrid Upgrade." Furthermore, some printed parts were suboptimal and required manual post-processing or re-printing. I also encountered a missing cast part, which was eventually replaced. Once assembled, I achieved stable accelerations of 7500 mm/s² with IDEX, but then ran into engineering flaws: The Bimetallic Effect: The X-axis consists of an aluminum base with stainless steel linear rails. These materials expand differently under heat, causing the gantry to warp and making a consistent first layer nearly impossible. Resonance: Achieving clean resonance compensation with a 4-belt system proved to be quite difficult. The Current Situation: Version 4.1 & Pulley Chaos I am currently installing the 4.1 upgrade kit, which aims to fix these "teething troubles." Since the printer is stripped down anyway, I decided to upgrade to Heavy Duty Pulleys. My experience here was the final straw: after ordering a full set for IDEX plus spares, I received an apology letter stating they were out of stock. They offered me three options: a refund, waiting, or a partial delivery. When I opted for the available quantity, the response was: "Actually, we have zero in stock." LOL. Additionally, I realized (again, my oversight) that the 4.1 upgrade kit does not include printed parts. Verdict The Hardware: The printer itself is high-quality and features brilliant engineering in some areas, while lacking basic material science in others (like the X-axis expansion issues). The 4.1 Upgrade Kit is a "must-have." This machine is strictly for the technically savvy or those with significant 3D printer assembly experience. Logistics & Communication: While shipping times are generally accurate (give or take 1-2 days), the logistics side is a headache. Shipping costs for small parts are high (€18 for 20 pulleys within the EU), and the overall experience is marred by missing parts, poor communication, and a lack of synchronization between warehouse and shop. Final Advice: Rat Rig may have improved some site descriptions recently, but my advice remains: READ EVERY SINGLE DETAIL BEFORE HITTING THE ORDER BUTTON! Best regards, Michèl Kolpin

I purchased a stronghold pro 1000x1500 (machine kit) during black friday, and on 2 december I got the email from ratrig that they cannot deliver my order because there is no stock left and they won’t be producing smaller sizes anymore. I am in a shock now because I already ordered the spindle and other electronics, I explained to them but it seems like they don’t really care. I got a rather long email back that seems to be AI generated, with almost no information about what they can offer to fix the problem except canceling and asking me to buy the 1500x1500mm machine for a full price which is out of my budget. There were some other good deals I was thinking about to buy but now that is also not possible becauae it took them 6 working days to realize the mistake and the deals were gone. 🤯 not a very good experience. Given that they cut the aluminum extrusions in-house, I think if they would care a bit they could assemble an extra kit and take a bit of responsibility instead of punishing the customer or at least offer the bigger machine with a discount.. Any similar experience? Now I am also afraid if they deal with customers like this what would happen if there is a problem with the machine kit etc..? Pretty disappointing unfortunately.. update: after another 2-3 emails turned out they could offer a 5% discount on the bigger machine, clearly they should have just shipped the bigger one or apply the same amount of discount I received for the smaller unit. I had no choice but to cancel it. Very disappointed and upset because this causes me lots of troubles, delays with my work.

Auch nicht für Geld. Unclaimed ist fair. Claimed gibt das Mikrofon — nicht den Radiergummi.
