Dark pattern subscription trap!

I paid £39 to (I thought) message a piano tutor. Superprof signed me up to a recurring monthly subscription and charged me £120 before I realised! It is really not clear what you're signing up for. BEWARE

Do not use this service unless - you will be misled

Do not use this service unless you are happy to pay for a reoccurring subscription that is not clear you are being signed into. I’ve only just noticed that I have 2 months worth of £39 charges when I haven’t even used the site after the first week of looking for a tutor. Asked for a refund - been given the standard fob off so I’m now seeking a chargeback from my credit card company. They make it sound like it’s your problem if you don’t realise it’s a reoccurring payment each month when it’s clear by these reviews that it’s not clear. So I don’t recommend any UK person uses this service. I’ll get ready for the standard response back saying “we detail the charges on our webpage…..blah blah blah - but it’s just not clear what you are doing and you are misleading people.

This companies recurring fees are not clear

This companies recurring fees are not okay. When I set up an account they asked for my credit card, without simultaneously, telling me I am agreeing to a recurring charge. They state clearly on the website that you will not be charged unless a tutor is booked so it is deceptive. They then charged me for 20 months before I noticed and refunded me 10 of them. I never booked a tutor. They say they email you afterwards to confirm the recurring fee but I didn't see this email. While I understand I could have noticed the fee sooner it is a legal requirement to conspicuously disclose the recurring fee AT THE TIME the credit card is provided, not afterwards via email. My opinion is this is a scam. I get that they legitimately provide access to tutors but who needs a monthly fee to find tutors. Like how many tutors could I ever hire that I would need a service like this. And how they explain the service and "disclose" fees seems intentionally opaque.

Refusing refund

I was looking for some piano lessons and I chose chose a tutor, selected the date I want to do it and the time. The tutor accepted, they charged me th initial £40, then the tutor canceled that session and wanted to reschedule. I’ve asked for a refund and got DECLINED? What happened to the 14 days money back? I’ll chase this further. Absolutely shameless.

Hello Iulian, Thanks for taking the time to share your review. Superprof exists to help students find their ideal tutors. For this service, we do charge a fee of £39 for the Student Pass. We make it clear on our payment page, in our Help Centre, and our Terms & Conditions that the pass is a monthly subscription, which renews automatically unless you cancel it. The Student Pass allows you to safely communicate with your tutor(s) and securely pay for lessons via the platform. In the event that a member of our tutor community isn't available to offer a class, having first accepted your request, then it's our team's job to work with you to find a solution. Disgusting company

Disgusting company! Nothing but a bunch of scammers - misleading information - which signs you into a subscription of £39 month which doesn’t include the tutor fees. Companies like this that steal money should be shut down! Fraud.
