I have been a Discord user since 2016 and had never received any restriction or enforcement action on my account before this incident. Recently, I accidentally authorized a malicious Discord application/bot. I never lost access to my account, but the malicious application was able to perform activity associated with it. As soon as I realized what had happened, I revoked the access, secured the account and enabled the appropriate security measures. Shortly afterwards, Discord issued a “Malicious Conduct” violation on my account. The most frustrating part has been the support process. Discord’s appeal system sent me in a loop: the app told me to use “Let us know,” which redirected me to a web support form, and after submitting that form I repeatedly received automated replies telling me to go back to the app and use “Let us know” again. After finally getting a response that acknowledged the actual situation, Discord confirmed that even though the activity resulted from an accidental compromise involving a malicious application, the violation will remain on my account until August 2028. They also stated that manual removal of violations is not supported, even in cases of accidental compromise. That is the part I find particularly unreasonable. There should be a meaningful distinction between someone intentionally engaging in malicious conduct and a long-standing user whose account was temporarily abused by a malicious third-party application. I fully accept that users have a responsibility to secure their accounts, but Discord also operates the application authorization system that malicious apps can abuse. Simply assigning the resulting misconduct to the account owner and refusing any possibility of manual review feels unfair. After almost 10 years of using Discord without a single previous restriction, I expected a more nuanced review of the circumstances instead of automated responses and a blanket policy that apparently leaves no room for context. Will probably never pay Nitro again until my account is out of the restrcition. Very disappointing support experience.

One star is being generous. Tried to log in, but kept getting the "email does not exist" message. Only use one email for Discord and even screenshotted the log in page as proof, as well as my emails to prove my account is linked. Kept being told by "Nelly" that the email is not linked to their servers (despite proof it was) and to check all inboxes and any other emails. "Nelly" also claimed "Our team can’t disclose which email is linked to your account" which to me reads like "something has happened to your account, we just cant tell you" which is dangerous as people have personal details on the site.

tried getting 2/3 accounts back, yet, they do nothing and pretty much say "sorry, cant do it"

Discord's Trust & Safety system is unbelievably opaque. I contacted support multiple times, not to appeal a punishment, but to ask a simple question: how are server owners supposed to report abuse of the reporting system itself? Instead of answering, support repeatedly sent me the same pre-generated response with the same generic article about reporting users and messages, which had nothing to do with my issue. When I tried to clarify, my tickets were simply closed. To make matters worse, moderation actions often provide almost no context, making it impossible to understand what rule was actually broken or how to avoid similar situations in the future. I understand the need for moderation, but the complete lack of transparency and meaningful support is incredibly frustrating.

Auch nicht für Geld. Unclaimed ist fair. Claimed gibt das Mikrofon — nicht den Radiergummi.
