Long-time UX tester's opinion

I write this review as a long-time UX tester. For close to 10 years I have done this type of work on all the major platforms. I've done well at it. I started with Userbrain about a month ago and have completed 12 tests. Two tests were rejected. The latest one the client said there was a problem with my microphone. For the record, I have a professional studio microphone. I check it prior to all tests. Two out of twelve is around 16.67% so that means that 16.67% of my tests failed to pay me for my time and work. Thru this time period, I get lots of offers to fill out a screener. Most of the screeners I do not qualify for. The ones I do I will discard several because I find the client has not provided a good working prototype or has come up with some idiotic instructions that a rocket scientist could not figure out. I have found if you do a really honest readout of the app or site for the client and are too critical, they will reject you. They really want to hear the work is great, wonderful but you might try green in that box instead of purple. They want minor suggestions or thoughts and they want you to show excitement. I have yet to get excited about a website or an app of any kind and that includes my own. This particular client with an ego issue awarded me 3 stars. This is their way of getting even. And, userbrain has no support. None of my emails have been responded to. And, unlike Usertesting, they do not go over your recording to see if the client actually had a reason to give three stars. Usertesting on their own will reverse these when they discover what the client has done. Userbrain is all about the client and do not seem to understand that without the tester, they have no business. How is Userbrain in the payment department? Glad you asked. Slow. You wait a week or so to give the client time to complain about you. If they don't, you get a notice that you will be paid. Then you wait up to a week to see the money in your Paypal account. Finally, the IOS app does not work. I have only been about to use it once, maybe twice. Yes, I wrote them about it. No, they did not reply or do anything about it. On their site it says, "The higher the quality of your tests, the higher our customers will rate your tester profile and the more test opportunities you'll get." Well, that would be fine if it were true. But out of twelve test only the one unhappy camper rated me in any manner. If the client is happy or satisfied, he does not rate you. Only if you have ticked him off will he rate you and that is his way of punishing you. So, that is my review of this platform. None of the platforms is perfect and none of them favor the UX tester. He is just their tool. But in my view. Userbrain is one of the worst ducks in the pond.

Hi Merritt, Thank you for taking the time to write this, and for the ten years you've put into UX testing. Feedback this detailed is rare, and we'd rather hear it than not. A few things we want to address honestly, because some of it doesn't match what we see on our end. Our records show one declined test, not two, and it wasn't declined over your microphone. We have no microphone-related decline on file for your account. Our QA team reviews every rating and every reported problem manually, and works with testers on next steps rather than letting a single client rating stand unchecked. We're happy to re-evaluate the test in question, and our support team will reach out to you directly to do exactly that. These reviews can take a few days, so thank you for your patience while we look again. You're right that honest, critical readouts are the point. That's the whole product. We don't want testers performing excitement, and a client wanting only praise isn't how this is supposed to work. That's precisely why we review low ratings by hand instead of taking them at face value. We do see responses to both of your support tickets: Your May 29 message about payment schedules was answered on June 1, and your June 23 message was answered the same day. If our replies didn't reach you, that's worth sorting out, and the team will check the thread when they get in touch. On payment: Your most recent payout was requested on June 23 and paid via PayPal on June 24, the next day. Payouts go out within a couple of days at most. If anything about a specific payment looked off to you, point us to it and we'll trace it. The iOS app issue is one we want to dig into with you as well. None of this changes that your experience over the past month clearly fell short, and we'd like the chance to make it right rather than leave it here. The Userbrain Team

Just doesn't work?

I have genuinely been on this platform for at least a year, and seen no tests given to me. An astonishing $0 earned despite me being approved to work with you guys. It's baffling! What was the point in me wasting my time jumping over all your hurdles?

Scammer they will try to find an excuse not to pay you

Scammer, they will try to find a reason no to pay you Scammer! Be aware they blocked me after asking for my money. They told me to update my billing, which I did, then wrote me another email to ask me if my billing was correct, which is right, then blocked me for no reason. They have my full name and my PayPal address; they can check the address on my PayPal or LinkedIn. Update: Their Excuse of taxes is just to make it sounds like it my fault! BUT I have provided with all required document still you banned me?!

Die Software ist so einfach zu bedienen und der Benutzerpool ist wirklich breit und hilfreich, die Aufgaben sind leicht zu trennen und die mitgelieferte Vorlage ist wirklich hilfreich, wenn Sie zum ersten Mal einen Remote-Usability-Test durchführen. Ich fand auch die Preisoptionen und die Rolling Credits wirklich großartig. Ich glaube immer noch, dass es einige Möglichkeiten im Bereich "Notizen machen" während des Videos gibt, wie z.B. die Möglichkeit, die bereits aufgezeichneten Notizen zu bearbeiten, anstatt sie zu löschen und neu zu schreiben. Ich hätte wirklich gerne einen kleinen Onboarding-Assistenten für die Tests, die wir an unsere eigenen Teilnehmer schicken, denn wenn sie noch keine Erfahrung mit Usability-Tests haben, haben sie Probleme, diese zu installieren und zu verstehen, wenn sie bereits aufgezeichnet werden.
