Villa Kamelia Seaside Almyra, Crete
We’ve just returned from a lovely week in Crete. I can’t really fault Villa Plus, the communication was great, the payment options were good and very clear and the Villa we stayed in was very good, very new, clean and of a high spec. Why only 4 stars and not 5? I would have given 4.5 if it was an option, as we only had a few niggles but it wasn’t quite 5, so it’s a 4. The finish of the Villa was higher than is often the case but the issues we had were to do with the ‘newness’ of it. There were a few ‘snags’ that could do with addressing which were minor details to do with it being recently finished I imagine. The plinths or kick boards in the kitchen came down every time we opened the dishwasher because the cutout for the integrated door is too tight. Also until I gave the oven a shove the door to the dishwasher hit the handle on the oven. I fit kitchens so I notice these things but they could be easily sorted properly. The first thing that struck us was that upon arrival there was only a bottle of still and sparking water in the fridge and absolutely nothing else. We didn’t expect a full shop and the details say they don’t provide food or drink obviously but over many years of visiting Crete, Corfu and Kefalonia, in particular we’ve always arrived to at least a minimal welcome pack - a bottle of milk, packets of Nescafé and so on so that a late arrival would at least let you have a drink. We’ve tended more often to have been treated to wine, even cake and so on but it’s not expected. I guess it felt a bit mean upon arrival not being able to make ourselves a drink before going out shopping after a long day travelling. Not really a complaint but it would have been nice! The only other thing to mention as a minor issue is that while the villa was well appointed and finished, our friends that had the ground floor room pointed out that they had no storage for clothes at all. No hanging space or cupboards only the two bedside tables which is a bit odd. Again, they managed but had to just pile their clothes up and live out of their bags. Our room on the second floor had good enough hanging space for 2 and one small cupboard to share. Minimal but ok. The storage space in the kitchen wasn’t great either but the kitchen was well appointed as I said and the fridge freezer was large and all worked as it should. That’s about it for problems - we joked that if I’d brought a few tools I could have sorted some them. The electric gate has the option to open a small door to allow individuals through without opening the whole thing and three keys were left that unlocked the door which was still only a metal frame. The option to cut around the door and screw the panels to the frame hadn’t been used but the keys were provided? It just made us think that it was 95% ready not 100% which is a shame, as it is very nice. It is a lot closer to a large hotel at the rear than we first thought but it didn’t alter things to be honest. Overall we would recommend Villa Plus, and the Villa Kamelia but it will be nicer still once the niggles are ironed out.

The villa was as pictured. The pool is a good size. Location is perfect for exploring Puglia with a car. The owner was very helpful. A personal preference would be two pillows per person. The BBQ and pizza oven were a nice facility to make use of. Updates and emails with details were helpful and efficient. The directions to the villa are problematic when using iPhone Maps and information should advise travellers to follow not use Google maps to locate the villa, but otherwise it directs you to the rest of the property where you cannot gain access and when it is evening/dark this can cause issues to locate the property.

The villa Mencia was fantastic
The villa Mencia had a fantastic layout with two en-suite double bedrooms at either end of the property which was ideal for two couples, with privacy. There is also a further double bedroom with a bathroom across the corridor. The lounge/dining area was spacious with two settee's and a large dining table. The highlight of the villa for us was the outside pool and barbeque area together with the table tennis and pool tables. The pool was fantastic and was serviced whilst we were there. We had a fantastic week and we would certainly book the villa again should we again wish to visit S'Algar. The kitchen and utility room have all the necessary amenities - dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and oven and hob but one constructive improvement would be to reduce the seven frying pans and to include some saucepans that could be used for conventional cooking. Also some additional barbeque utensils and cleaning equipment specifically for the barbeque would also have improved the use of the villa. Having said that we have no complaints and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location of the villa was also ideal within a short walking distance of all the hotels, restaurant and bars in S'Algar and extremely close to the bus stop with buses directly to St Luis and Mahon.
