We booked a specific car months in advance. When we arrived at the airport in August, the line was insane—which makes sense for August. What doesn't make sense is that Europcar was the only rental company taking this long. The rest of our group picked up their cars within minutes and had to wait over an hour for me to finish. When I finally made it to the counter, I was casually told, "Everything is ready, but just so you know, we're out of baby seats." I had reserved two! This is an absolute disgrace—what am I supposed to do with that information at the counter? Their "brilliant" suggestion was for us to drive over to Target and buy baby seats ourselves. That is basically telling me, "Break the law, drive unsafely, and risk your children's lives on the road to buy car seats you’ll have no use for later." Where were you this whole time? How do you even dare to tell me this at the moment of vehicle pickup? After that, we got the car we requested, but mid-trip I noticed the engine oil level was extremely low. Multiple calls to emergency support, customer service, and an email yielded the absolute worst service I have ever experienced in my life. God knows what would have happened if I had gotten stranded on the road with my kids in the peak heat, with a malfunctioning car and slow, unhelpful service charging me a fortune for every minute on the phone. And this was after they told me, "Just bring the car back to the airport and we’ll give you another one"—as if I weren’t a 4-hour drive away, trying to prevent the engine from blowing up or leaving us stranded. Car: 10/10 Service: 2/10 (only because they were polite, but practically useless) Availability: 0/10 (endless wait times, promised callbacks that never happened, and an invalid email address) An absolute disgrace of a company! I thought I was renting from a reputable brand, but it turned out to be a total disaster. I will never use this company again. Rating: 0/5 Is it really that hard to provide online service, a chat, or WhatsApp support? Complete disgrace.

Warning for anyone renting at Chania Airport — check the total before you sign A truly awful start to our holiday — please don't let this happen to you. Sharing our June 2026 experience so others can avoid it. We arrived on a night flight with three young children, with the car fully prepaid through Booking.com (€1,027.68, protection included). At the desk the agent immediately created stress by saying our rental was "for 15 July" — that was the return date. Then she told us our prepaid insurance was "wrong" and helped us call the broker from the desk to cancel it, promising better conditions. She wrote numbers on a scrap of paper, crossed them out and circled "€0" several times. We never saw the actual total: €1,578.99. The signature was taken on a small device showing only an empty signature box, and the printed contract was handed over only after signing. €744 went on the card for replacement cover. Practical advice from this experience: never cancel insurance you have already paid for while standing at a rental desk; ask for the total price in writing before signing; photograph the contract and the odometer; and if you're tired after a night flight, slow the conversation down. Our written complaint to Europcar was rejected.

I rented a car from Europcar in Kefalonia from July 12th to July 18th. The office is located outside the airport, in a rather inconvenient location, on the first floor and without particularly clear directions. When we arrived at the office, the door was closed and we had to contact the staff member via WhatsApp, who arrived shortly afterwards. The paperwork for collecting the car also involved a very long wait. Up to this point, although the service was rather inefficient, I would not have left an extremely negative review, as I can understand that there may be organizational difficulties. The real problem arose with the fuel deposit. When I picked up the car, two amounts were held: one related to the car and one related to fuel. The staff member told me that both amounts would be refunded within 15 days of returning the car. On July 18th, I returned the car with a full tank. The amount related to the car, which had initially remained "pending", was subsequently refunded. The fuel amount, however, was actually charged and has still not been refunded. I tried to contact Europcar using the email addresses listed online. Both emails bounced back. I then contacted an international customer service. After an initial reply asking me for additional information about the rental agreement, I received no further response. I therefore contacted the WhatsApp number that had been provided to me in Kefalonia. Initially, I was told that the refund would take 15–25 days. After 25 days had passed, I was then told that these were actually 25 business days. The issue is not only the delay in receiving the refund, but above all the complete lack of clarity. At the time of returning the car, I was told that the refund would take 15 days. This subsequently became 15–25 days and, once that period had passed, 25 business days. I find it unacceptable to have to repeatedly chase customer service to get back an amount that was withheld and for which I am entitled to a refund, especially since I returned the car with a full tank as required. Before renting a car from Europcar in Kefalonia, I strongly recommend paying particular attention to the terms and, above all, the actual timing and procedure for the refund of the fuel deposit.
