After a full year inside IHG, I wanted out — so I tried to spend down my points and leave. Even that, IHG managed to make difficult. I booked the InterContinental O2 in London for 240,000 points. The transaction wouldn't complete. I called. Instead of fixing the broken booking flow, the agent informed me the rate was now 450,000 points — nearly double — and that was what I would have to pay. No acknowledgment that the failure was on their side. Just: pay more. That single call is the entire IHG corporate culture in miniature. I've been documenting it all year: 17 nights at a Berlin IHG property where the internet was unusable for business work. The GM admitted the infrastructure wasn't IHG's problem. An Amsterdam stay with a broken shower and a loose toilet seat. Three Amsterdam RFPs for a corporate course declined because group sales "only handles 10+ rooms." One hotel never replied at all. Three IHG Chase credit card applications rejected despite strong creditworthiness — resulting in a TransUnion fraud flag I now have to clean up. Zero room upgrades across every single Diamond stay this year. 21 minutes on hold as a Diamond Elite member trying to book a €2,500 stay. I gave up and booked through Booking.com — €200 cheaper. 28 — yes, twenty-eight — Diamond Elite Services agents over six to nine rounds of escalation. One of them flatly told me DES was the highest escalation level available. It wasn't: the Executive Office responded the moment I went around her. One simple request, repeated in every message: give me ONE named point of contact for the rest of my Diamond year. Never answered. Not once. 5,000 points offered as goodwill (~€25). I refused. A second agent added another 5,000 in direct response to my request to have them removed. I escalated to IHG EMEA CEO Kenneth Macpherson and MD Northern Europe Mario Maxeiner. The Executive Office (Chris Conwi) did respond — and invited me to share detail on what was going wrong behind the scenes. I put three hours into a structured account, exactly the kind of internal diagnostic any chain should want from a Diamond member trying to help. They never came back to me. Not a follow-up, not a thank-you, nothing. And now, on my way out the door, trying to redeem the points I earned: the booking system breaks, and the "fix" is to charge me 87.5% more. IHG corporate doesn't have a service problem. It has a culture problem. Diamond Elite status, at IHG, buys you the privilege of being misled politely. I travel ~150 nights a year. This review exists because 28 agents and a CEO-level escalation couldn't get IHG to answer one question: who, by name, is responsible for my account? Who cares that I am a customer? Maybe a public version of that question will land where the private one didn't.

IHG customer service is more disappointing than the Cleveland brown... record all calls, reference numbers and screen shot everything. If not you will be like in a quagmire with a company that ducks accountability better than your favorite boxer.

I used IHG's chat function, which is entirely useless. I am a Platinum Ambassador member. I required what I thought was a relatively simple query, but I was passed on to 4 different agents during the chat and had to repeat the issue each time. Also, none of the agents really listened. The last one completely ghosted me by typing for over 2 minutes... The result is that my issue has not been resolved.

OMG! I NEED MORE SPACE TO GIVE THIS NEGATIVE REVIEW. IHG CUSTOMER SERVICE. I PLACED AN ORDER FROM THE CATALOG USING MY POINTS GIVING CUSTOMER SERVICE MY NEW ADDRESS TO CHANGE THE OLD ONE. THE PURCHASE WAS MADE SEPT 15 .AND WAS TO BE DELIVERED TODAY OCT 1ST.. I TRACKED THE PACKAGE AND IT WENT FROM OUT FOR DELIVERY SEPT 30 TO BEING LOADED ON DELIVERY VEHICLE. I HAVE MADE OVER 3 CALLS TO UPS AND WAS CONNECTED TO AN AGENT THAT TOLD ME AFTER HEARING MY CONCERNS THAT I HAVE TO CALL IHG TO HAVE THEM CALL UPS TO CONFIRM THE NEW ADDRESS SO THAT THE PACKAGE CAN BE DELIVERED TOMORROW TO THE NEW ADDRESS. MADE ANOTHER 6 CALLS TO 4 DIFFERENT NUMBERS TO IHG, GOT TRANSFERRED MORE THAN 4X, REPEATING MYSELF ON EVERY TRANSFERED CALL AND NOT ONE AGENT CAN HELP ME. WHY IS IT ALWAYS ON THE LAST AND FINAL CALL THAT THAT PERSON WAS THE RIGHT ONE TO TALK TO THAT CAN HELP.

Here is a formal complaint to the members of IHG Chain of hotels. I booked a hotel using reward points and ended up being charged 500$ without me knowing. Thanks for making my vacation great! Not!

Auch nicht für Geld. Unclaimed ist fair. Claimed gibt das Mikrofon — nicht den Radiergummi.
