Excellent employee

I needed some help setting up my Samsung phone and my providers were O2. Matt from the Liverpool 1 shop was extremly helpful. He solved all my issues with my new phone. He was very polite, professional and very competent. I also decided to purchase an Internet package for my home. He was again very helpful with this. He is a great asset to your company.

Terrible service from O2

I had an absolutely horrendous experience dealing with O2 this weekend. The problem started on Friday when my IT provider accidentally pulled out our fibre cable while changing our communications cabinet. They contacted CityFibre at around lunchtime, but the earliest appointment they could offer was Tuesday. The explanation was that it was a bank holiday weekend, despite Monday not being a bank holiday in Scotland. Being without our fibre connection from Friday until Tuesday is clearly unacceptable, although I appreciate that this part of the problem has nothing to do with O2. As a temporary solution, I decided to buy a 5G router and use an O2 SIM card to keep our business connected. I went into the O2 store, explained exactly what I needed and purchased a PAYG SIM with 125GB of data for £30. I specifically asked whether I could buy a larger data allowance, but was told that 125GB was the maximum available. Unfortunately, we used the 125GB very quickly. That was when the real problems with O2 began. Trying to top up the SIM proved virtually impossible. I tried online, through my phone and using the various telephone numbers suggested by O2. Each time I was either returned to the same automated system or the process simply failed. I couldn't log in through the O2 app either. Instead, I received a message saying there was a "slight pause" to protect my account and instructing me to call one of the numbers provided. One of those numbers wasn't even valid, while the others simply returned me to the same system that had already failed. Eventually, in desperation to speak to an actual person, I selected technical support. I got through to a very helpful and apologetic lady. She initially told me that the only way to obtain unlimited data was to enter into a 12-month contract. She then spent around 40 minutes trying to help me top up the PAYG SIM before eventually acknowledging that there were known problems with the system and that I would have to return to the O2 store. By this point it was 4:45pm and the store closed at 5pm. Fortunately, I wasn't too far away, so I rushed there and arrived at approximately 4:55pm. At the store I was then told that topping up the PAYG SIM wouldn't really solve the problem anyway, because even adding £50 would provide only a relatively small amount of additional data. I was, however, told that I could take out a 30-day contract with unlimited data for £38. I was understandably annoyed that nobody had offered me this option when I visited the store the previous day and specifically asked for more than 125GB. Nevertheless, it was exactly what I needed, so I agreed to take the 30-day contract. What happened next was astonishing. The assistant told me that he wouldn't set it up because the shop was closing in a few minutes. I asked how long the process would take and was told approximately ten minutes. Despite everything I had explained, and despite my having rushed to the store after spending around 40 minutes on the phone with O2 trying to resolve the problem, he was simply unwilling to stay for the few additional minutes required to complete the transaction. I therefore had no option but to purchase another £30 PAYG SIM with another 125GB allowance, just to keep us connected, and will presumably have to return to the store again to arrange the 30-day unlimited-data contract. What makes this particularly disappointing is that I deliberately chose an O2 SIM because I already use EE and wanted to compare O2's 5G coverage and performance. If it proved better, I was considering moving more of our mobile services to O2. Instead, this weekend has given me an opportunity to compare something else: customer service. I have encountered incorrect information, an online system that didn't work, an app I couldn't access, invalid telephone numbers, an automated telephone system that repeatedly failed, a known top-up problem, contradictory advice about the available tariffs, and finally a member of staff who was unwilling to spend approximately ten additional minutes resolving the problem because the store was about to close. After this experience, moving our services to O2 is no longer something I would consider.
