Plugin never worked correctly. Company made unauthorized changes to my website

Plugin never worked completely right for me from the start. Kept throwing REST API errors. Plugin would work intermittently, then broke completely to the point where I could not edit pages or use the templates at all. But, before it broke completely, plugin worked intermittently. Images would randomly disappear. Icons would display in the editor (when it was working) and then not appear on the live site. Eventually, editor would fail and pages would not load at all. The plugin is very buggy and rough around the edges. COmpany bent over backwards to defend it and deny there was a problem until it was very obvious there *was* a problem. Company requested Wordpress login credentials to investigate. I created special login creds for them. They accessed my site, and tried to determine what might be going wrong. However, during this process, for some reason, decided to add a plugin to my site without my knowledge or permission. I removed the plugin, and told them that I did not want any modifications to the site (basically, look but please do not touch anything). They acknowledged. However, Optimize Press support team kept blaming my host and, at one point, subtly denigrated my hosting provider. After over a month of back and forth, realized the issue was not going to be fixed. They finally (FINALLY!) admitted there was a false/erroneous REST API error, after repeatedly denying there was any problem with their plugin. However, plugin still did not work, still could not load templates or edit pages (tested in multiple different browsers). They promised to investigate again, and fix the plugin issues. By that point, however, I had given up and asked for a refund. Canceled my subscription, deleted the plugin, and moved . However, my fault — I neglected to fully revoke their access to my site, and their tech people went in and *again* made *unauthorized* changes to my website (by re-adding the OP plugin and activating it without switching back to the OP theme, which I had deactivated). They claim the plugin was fixed, but a quick test before deleting their plugin for a second time revealed... it was *still* not working as advertised. Templates still not loading. Pages still not editable. I then restored the entire site to a prior backup (where I had a working theme in native Wordpress/FSE, new edits, new design started, etc.), re-delete the OP plugins, and revoked Optimize Press's access to my site again. OP also wrote to me that they would consider issuing a refund (and even put in a refund request with their accounts team and tagged it as a refund request) even though I was beyond the refund period, simply due to all the problems I was having with the plugin. Support also acknowledged after all this time that they knew about inherent conflicts with their plugin with my hosting provider and had other customers who had similar problems. They only mentioned this towards the very end, but sounds like they knew this was going to be a problem. If I had known this from the beginning, I would have simply not signed up, since it wouldn't be worth the hassle to buy a plugin that's not compatible with my host. Overall, I had a poor experience. Got fed up with the way support was handling the ongoing problems. Can you believe they wanted FTP access to my site to investigate the problem with their plugin? Can you imagine the disaster and havoc they would have caused if they ever got that level of access? Thankfully I had backups that I could restore from. UPDATE: Optimize Press finally issued a full refund after I posted this negative review and exchanged several private emails with them. The founder requested I delete this review after issuing a refund, claiming much of the information is now incorrect. However, the facts are correct, and well-documented in their own support ticket system (and copies of emails sent to me). My experience is what it is. Maybe other customers have had better experiences than mine. But... mine was absolutely terrible and so my review stands. Sometimes, plugins don't work. That happens. I wish it didn't, but it happens. Not everything is compatible with everything else. Sometimes products are a poor fit. I get that. But.. there is no excuse for the kind of customer support I received. Most of what happened didn't need to happen, yet it did. Wasted a lot of my time and energy trying to fix a problem that was never going to be fixed, and I suspect (in my own personal opinion), the CS knew this was never going to work correctly on my hosting environment. Thankful they eventually decided to issue a full refund. A lesson for both of us, I guess.
