A Dishonest Money Grab: Sapphire is Just a Redesign
As a long-time user of the Rosetta Stone Classic application, I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed with the release of Rosetta Stone Sapphire. After spending some time with this new app, it’s glaringly obvious that it is nothing more than a visual redesign of the exact same content, conveniently labeled as "new" simply to justify charging more. In the past, Rosetta Stone offered a consumer-friendly model where you could pay once, own the system for life, and learn at your own leisure. Now, they’ve completely abandoned that in favor of forcing monthly and yearly subscriptions. Worse yet, it appears they are no longer going to update the older Classic application, effectively cornering their loyal user base into this new subscription trap. This feels incredibly dishonest, greedy, and genuinely hurtful to the customers who have supported them for years. To be fair, I will always credit Rosetta Stone for its excellent accent and pronunciation training. I regularly get complimented on my accent when speaking Polish, and that is highly due to the way this system teaches you to speak. They do that specific part incredibly well. However, that one positive feature does not justify a predatory subscription model for recycled content. We live in an era where you can use AI tools like ChatGPT or Gemini to act as excellent, interactive language tutors—often going above and beyond what Rosetta Stone offers—for a fraction of the cost or even for free. Ultimately, Rosetta Stone Sapphire feels less like a step forward in language learning and more like a calculated money grab. Unless you desperately need their specific pronunciation tools, I cannot recommend supporting these anti-consumer practices.

Lack of support for their products
I bought a French language course on CDs a few years ago and registered it, my property? No, when I replace laptops later and don't have a confirmation code the CDs no longer load and Rosetta Stone are not interested - no online support or phone support they just want to sell expensive online subscriptions. It includes a lifetime subscription but how long is that going to be supported?

They are using a predatory loophole to strip paying customers of access. October 2025: My 80-year-old parents bought me a "Lifetime Membership" as a birthday gift during a promotional campaign. April 2026: Just six months later, Rosetta Stone rolls out their new flagship software featuring AI upgrades. The Trap: They locked legacy lifetime users out of the new platform. Their defense? They claim the new app is a "completely separate product offering." The Double-Talk: To existing users, they say it’s a "separate product." But in their active public marketing, they explicitly boast it is "the same old Rosetta Stone you've always known and loved, but now with AI." They dropped prices on a "Lifetime" deal just to liquidate memberships for a legacy platform they knew they were actively planning to sunset. When challenged, their customer service manager officially refused a refund, refused a migration path, and threatened to block further communication. I used to use Rosetta Stone when it was like an offline software platform. After being an online version, the way of practice of the platform is not as useful as before. Plus, the pricing is higher than expected. It could have had a more reasonable price.
