AVOID OMAN AIR AT ALL COSTS – €2,300 SCAMMED FROM ME One of the worst airline experiences I have ever had. I was travelling Business Class, yet at the airport I was suddenly told I was not entitled to take my luggage and was forced to pay €2,300 upfront I called Oman Air’s head office from the airport, extremely stressed, and was explicitly promised that this amount would be reimbursed. It never was. Despite countless attempts to resolve the matter, I encountered nothing but incompetence and a complete lack of accountability. JAMAL SALIM, who was presented as a manager, was utterly ineffective, as were members of the Muscat head office, including Naima El KIYOUMI. I have now had to involve lawyers to deal with this situation. I feel completely cheated and financially exploited by Oman Air. Promises were made, money was taken, and nobody took responsibility. Do NOT travel with Oman Air. Avoid this company at all costs.

Overall, I was impressed with Oman Air. There were parts of the experience that were genuinely excellent and among the best Business Class experiences I’ve had, although there were also a couple of significant disappointments. The biggest positive was the Apex Suite on the 787. It’s probably the best Business Class seat I’ve personally flown in. There’s excellent privacy and space, and the fully flat bed is genuinely comfortable. It’s never going to feel exactly like a normal bed, but I managed to get some decent sleep, which is ultimately what I want from a long-haul Business Class seat. The cabin crews were exceptional. Across the flights I found them warm, friendly, attentive and professional. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and there was a genuine sense that they wanted passengers to have a good experience. In terms of onboard service, Oman Air absolutely delivered. The Oman Air lounge in Muscat was also excellent. I’d give it 9/10. It felt like a proper premium lounge and was another highlight of the trip. Two very different sides of Oman Air One of the strangest things about my experience was the enormous contrast between Oman Air’s cabin crews and its ground staff in Muscat. The cabin crews couldn’t have been more welcoming or attentive. Unfortunately, I found a number of the ground staff to be almost the complete opposite: inattentive, abrupt and, at times, simply rude. When passengers were dealing with disruption and needed assistance, there seemed to be very little empathy or desire to help. I’m not mentioning this because of one isolated interaction either. I flew Oman Air approximately ten years ago and remember coming away with a very similar impression: excellent people in the air, but a noticeably poorer customer service experience on the ground in Muscat. It’s difficult to understand how there can be such a difference within the same airline. Oman Air clearly knows how to recruit and train cabin crew to deliver excellent hospitality. Bringing that same customer service culture to its ground operation would make an enormous difference. Outbound disruption My journey to the UK was disrupted when my Qantas flight from Brisbane to Manila was delayed by around three hours, causing me to miss my onward Oman Air flight. The original delay wasn’t Oman Air’s fault, so I certainly don’t blame them for that. My frustration was with the ground service experience while trying to get the situation resolved. However, once Oman Air did get everything sorted, the recovery arrangements were excellent. I was rebooked and given a very good airside hotel in Muscat, conveniently located right next to the departure gates. It was comfortable, high quality and exactly what I needed after a disrupted journey. Oman Air deserves credit for that. The biggest disappointment: the overnight aircraft change The biggest negative came on my return journey from Muscat to Kuala Lumpur. I’d booked the overnight sector expecting Oman Air’s 787 Business Class product with a fully flat bed. Instead, the aircraft was changed to a 737 MAX with recliner seats. For me, those seats were much closer to a good Premium Economy product than the long-haul Business Class experience I’d paid for. Had this been a short daytime flight, I wouldn’t have been particularly concerned. But this was an almost seven-hour overnight flight and specifically the sector where I was relying on the lie-flat bed to sleep. I couldn’t sleep properly, arrived in Kuala Lumpur exhausted and still had the long journey to Brisbane ahead of me. The resulting sleep deficit had a significant knock-on effect after I returned home and made getting back into my normal work routine considerably harder. I completely understand that aircraft sometimes have to be changed for operational reasons. But changing from a fully flat bed to a recliner on a long overnight Business Class flight is a major change to the product a passenger has purchased. Overall Despite the negatives, I would fly Oman Air again. On the 787, the Apex Suite is superb, the lounge in Muscat is a 9/10 and the cabin crews were some of the best I’ve experienced. The frustrating thing is that Oman Air already has many of the ingredients of a genuinely outstanding Business Class airline. For me, the two areas that need addressing are consistency of the long-haul Business Class product and, particularly, the standard of customer service on the ground in Muscat. If the ground experience could match the warmth and professionalism of the cabin crews, Oman Air would be very difficult to fault.

Very disappointing experience with Oman Air. Poor food, disorganised boarding, and unsatisfactory luggage handling. The behaviour of some cabin crew was also unprofessional and unfriendly. Overall, the service was below the standard I expected from an international airline.

I identified a potentially serious issue with my booking only to be 'assured' by Oman Air that everything would be fine - as there was nothing wrong. I booked a 6 leg journey with Oman Air. First let was with BA and final leg with Air France. Oman Air issued me with 2 separate booking reference numbers - one for them a d gne other for BA & AF - this allowed me to go in a select my seats on each flight prior to flying. When I went into Manage my Booking on BA & AF I could see my itinerary and flight details - the problem was details of one flight, Leg 4, was missing on each site. I phoned BA and they checked their system and informed me that they could view all of the etickets for the trip however the details were not in sync with my itinerary. They also told me that they could not fix it, only Oman Air could. They also said that it was important that it was fixed as it could cause problems during my journey - potentially Air France could cancel my flight as the first leg of the return journey was missing from the itinerary. I have spoken to Oman Air customer care 5 times - they are a complete nightmare. They do not listen. They do not understand. They do not take ownership. They do not care. And some of them are extremely rude. All of them 'assured' me that everything was OK as they could see all etickets v the full itinerary - which I could also see on Oman Air manage my booking. That was not the issue - what they had sent to BA & AF was incorrect and was out of sync and it needed to be fixed. A 5 minute job I was told by BA. Despite that Oman Air simply told me to inform BA & AF that everything was OK - rather than fix the issue. The girl at BA even told me exactly what needed to be done, using the correct airline jargon - and still Oman Air insisted that they had done nothing wrong and everything was OK. Only after threatening to cancel my flight and once again asking to speak to a supervisor was I told that they would initiate the simple fix. I can honestly say that I have never encountered such incompetent CS staff anywhere - and as for Kashish actually shouting at me while completely ignoring the fact that it was an Oman Air issue that BA could not fix. She is clearly not suited to a role working with customers - she simply does not listen. Oman Airs customer service team should realise that their 'assurances' that everything is OK doesn't wash. Only when issues are fully resolved and are in black and white will customers be satisfied. Training is clearly an issue - I hope the in flight experience is better - but to be honest it couldn't be much worse.
